Why a turnkey business matters to a first-time founder
Buying an operating package can shorten the path to revenue, but the convenience premium may hide weak demand, tired equipment, or dependence on the seller. The buyer still inherits operating, compliance, staffing, and cash-flow risks. Ready to run does not mean profitable.
Examples of turnkey businesses
A buyer pays ₹8.5 million for a fitted coffee kiosk, equipment, supplier contacts, permits, and staff handover. Before completion, they verify the lease can transfer, inspect the machines, review twelve months of till records, and confirm which licences require a new application.
Common misunderstanding
A turnkey business is not necessarily a franchise. A franchise usually includes an ongoing brand licence, operating system, fees, and contractual controls. A turnkey sale may simply transfer a standalone operation. In either case, marketing claims about projected income are not guaranteed results.
When to use it
Consider one when speed and an established operating setup are worth more than building from scratch. Conduct financial, legal, technical, and commercial due diligence. Confirm exactly what transfers, including contracts, intellectual property, permits, deposits, warranties, data, and liabilities.
