Social media marketing

“Promoting a business on social platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram or TikTok through posts, paid ads and conversations that move people towards buying.”

Why social media marketing matters to a first-time founder

For most early founders, social platforms are the cheapest way to reach strangers, test messages and find the first people who care. They can also swallow hours with nothing to show. Treating it as marketing means choosing one audience, one platform and one next step, then tracking whether posts lead to conversations, sign-ups or sales. Without that, you are building an audience for the platform, not customers for your business.

Examples of social media marketing

Freelance designers already talk in one community. You show a chase email that got a late invoice paid, in the tone those designers use, and you say how to try it. The post has a person and a next step. Publishing the same words into an account nobody follows is a note to yourself.

Common misunderstanding

People treat posting as the work, and they judge it by likes. A like is not a lead. A lead is someone who has shown interest in the product. Social can create that interest. It can also create a pile of approval from people who will never pay. Count the path from the post to the payment, or stop pretending the post is marketing.

When to use it

Use it when your customers are already there, and you can say something they would repeat. If they are not on the platform, your consistency will not move them. Go to the place they already are.
