Why Gantt chart matters to a first-time founder
The chart makes sequencing conflicts and missed handovers visible before they delay a launch. It can also expose when several tasks depend on one person. The value comes from maintaining realistic dates and dependencies; a polished chart built from guesses creates confidence without improving delivery.
Examples of Gantt chart
A team plans a six-week website launch. Copywriting runs in weeks one and two, design in weeks two and three, and development in weeks three to five. Testing cannot start until development finishes, so its bar begins in week six and the dependency is shown explicitly.
Common misunderstanding
It is not a to-do list or a guarantee that work will follow the displayed dates. A list records tasks; a Gantt chart adds timing and relationships. It can show a critical path, but only if dependencies and durations are accurate enough to identify which delays affect completion.
When to use it
Use one for a project with several owners, dependencies or fixed dates. Keep the level of detail small enough to update weekly and mark major decisions as milestones. A simple checklist is usually better for a short piece of work that one person can complete independently.
