Why commercial bank matters to a first-time founder
A commercial bank may hold operating cash, process payments and provide credit, making its fees, controls and reliability important to daily trading. Banking licences, deposit protection and customer rights vary by jurisdiction. A financial technology app may provide an interface while a separate licensed bank holds the money.
Examples of commercial bank
A small manufacturer opens an account with a commercial bank, pays suppliers through it and obtains a $100,000 revolving credit facility for seasonal stock. The founder checks which legal entity holds deposits, the facility’s interest and security terms, and whether local deposit protection covers company balances.
Common misunderstanding
“Commercial bank” does not mean only a bank for companies. Many serve both consumers and businesses. It is also not the same as an investment bank, which mainly advises on capital raising and transactions, although one banking group may contain separately regulated businesses offering both kinds of service.
When to use it
Use a commercial bank for regulated deposit, payment or lending services that match the business’s country and legal form. Compare total fees, access controls, support and credit terms, not only the headline price. Keep a backup payment plan if losing one account would stop trading.
