Bank

“A regulated financial institution that accepts deposits, provides credit and payment services, and may offer other financial products.”

Why bank matters to a first-time founder

Your bank affects how you receive payments, safeguard operating cash, borrow and prove transactions. Fees, service reliability and deposit protection can matter as much as an app’s design. A business should understand which legal institution actually holds its money when using a financial technology service.

Examples of bank

A Swedish company receives SEK 600,000 into its business bank account, pays suppliers and maintains a SEK 200,000 credit facility. The bank records the deposit as money owed to the company and assesses the company separately before allowing it to draw credit.

Common misunderstanding

A bank is not any company with a payment app or card. Some financial technology firms provide an interface while a licensed partner holds deposits and processes regulated services. Banks also do more than store physical money: deposits are account claims against the bank.

When to use it

Choose a bank when you form the company, take payments, hire abroad or need credit. Compare regulation, deposit protection, currencies, integrations, limits and support. Consider a second institution if one failure could stop payroll, but avoid unnecessary complexity while transaction volumes remain small.
